Dear Mr Walters,
I heard your broadcast on the BBC World service from the Southern Ocean, describing the conditions you were facing and life on a yacht whilst surviving in a hurricane.
I have written this for your crew and all the brave men and women on the BT Global Challenge. You have inspired me.
God speed.
If I had my life over again
If I had my life over -
I’d dare to make more mistakes next time.
I’d relax. I would limber up.
I would be sillier than I have been this trip.
I would take fewer things seriously.
I’d laugh a lot more and,
Celebrate all the things that are right with the World,
As opposed to moaning about what’s wrong.
I would thank more people, and notice things that people did for me
I would take more chances.
I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers
I would eat more ice cream and fewer beans.
I would perhaps have more actual troubles,
But I’d have fewer imaginary ones.
You see, I am one of those people who
Lives sanely hour after hour, day after day.
Oh, I’ve had my moments and
If I had to do it over again, I’d have more of them.
In fact, I’d try to have nothing else.
Just moments, one after another,
Instead of living so many years ahead of each day.
I’ve been one of those persons
Who never goes anywhere without a
Thermometer, hot water bottle,
A raincoat or a parachute.
In fact I hardly ever take a risk or go out on a limb.
If I had to do it again,
I would travel lighter than I have.
If I had my life over,
I would start barefoot earlier in the spring
And stay that way later in the fall.
I would go to more dances, and stay up later with friends.
I would ride more merry go rounds.
I would pick more daisies, and celebrate and thank all those people who have touched my life.
I am still blessed with my life, so today I am going to think very differently from yesterday.
Thank you Humphrey for inspiring me.
